Multiple Teams · NDA Athletics Updates 5/14/2020

The NDA Athletic Department hopes that all of our Eagles and their families are doing well and are healthy.  Below are some NDA Athletics updates.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact NDA Athletic Director Gary Snyder at gsnyder@nda.org.

Still in a No-Contact Period

The Ohio Department of Health has ordered all school buildings and facilities closed to students through 6/30/2020 (See Order).  This includes NDA’s building and inside and outside athletic facilities.  Additionally, the ODH Stay Safe Ohio order goes through 5/29/2020 (See Order).  The OHSAA’s no-contact period has been extended through 5/31/2020 (See details).

Highlights from the above documents:

– As you see, the ODH has closed school facilities through 6/30, but the OHSAA’s no-contact period is only through 5/31.  The OHSAA does have “every intent to make sure the No-Contact Regulation stays in place as long as the facility shutdown is in place.”  Therefore, if the ODH ends school closures sometime in June, it will give the OHSAA more flexibility to start summer contact (provided it is permitted).  If the ODH school closure runs through 6/30, then the OHSAA no-contact will likely be extended through 6/30.

– No-Contact Period Clarification:  The OHSAA no-contact period applies to all OHSAA sports and member schools.  At NDA, this also includes all non-OHSAA club sports and all NDJA sports.  Coaches can contact student-athletes electronically.  Coaches can continue to send out fitness workouts to be completed individually.  Coaches can also provide virtual instruction by following the guidance from the OHSAA.  Coaches cannot provide any in-person coaching/instruction to student-athletes during the no-contact period.

– The 50% limitation is not in effect from June 1 – July 31 in the sports of basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball and not in effect from the Friday prior to Memorial Day – July 31 for softball.  For the summer of 2020 only, the 50% limitation is not in effect until August 31, instead of July 31.  This permission has been extended until August 31 for 2020 only.  The regular period of June 1 – July 31 will remain beginning on June 1, 2021.

– There is NO 10-day maximum of coaching days for basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and volleyball this summer.  Additionally, there will not be a no-contact period for basketball, lacrosse, and softball this August.  These changes are just for 2020.

NDA Moves From PRIVIT to FinalForms

Notre Dame Academy has used PRIVIT for the last several years for our athletic forms.  NDA is changing to FinalForms and we hope to have the FinalForms functional by the end of May.  All student-athletes will need to be cleared in FinalForms before they can participate in any NDA athletic activity/event (fitness session, open gym, practice, scrimmage, game, etc.) once sports can resume.  We will send notification emails and post instructions on this website when our FinalForms site is functional. Until then..

1. Those NDA student-athletes that are already cleared in PRIVIT will remain cleared until the NDA FinalForms site is up or until their physical expires- whichever occurs first.  Then all athletic forms will need to be completed on FinalForms.  Current PRIVIT physical packets will remain valid until they expire (13 months after the physical exam).
2. Those student-athletes new to NDA will need to complete their athletic forms in FinalForms once the site is functional.
3. If a student-athlete needs to get a new physical in the next couple of weeks before FinalForms is up, she can use this OHSAA paper form and take that to the physical examination: https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/files/Sports-Medicine/PPE_2020-21.pdf.
Athletic documents on FinalForms will still need to be completed when the site is functional.

Summer Information, Fall Tryouts, and Coaching Staff Contact Info

NDA fall sports coaches and coaches for sports that traditionally do summer activities are presently planning to begin summer activities on July 1.  Most fall sports tryouts are scheduled to begin on August 1.  This information will be posted later in May.  All of the summer plans are subject to governmental and health regulations.  The NDA Athletic Department will follow all health and safety requirements.

We will not have in-person May Info meetings this year for fall sports and basketball.  Coaches will instead email out summer info to student-athletes and parents.  Some coaches will also set-up Zoom meetings.  Be sure to email any fall coach or our basketball coach so you get on his/her email distribution list.  Email addresses for NDA head coaches are listed below.
