Notre Dame Academy’s varsity soccer team has had an exciting OHSAA tournament run so far. On 10/17, the team defeated Springfield 6-0 in the Sectional Final at NDA. Senior Ashley Barron scored four goals and junior Hannah Miller and freshman Grace VanSlooten each scored one goal. Junior goalkeeper Katie Wisniewski and sophomore goalkeeper Madi Soulis combined for the shutout.
On 10/22, the team earned a 1-0 win over Clay in the District Semifinal. Ashley Barron headed home a corner kick from freshman Iliana Calcamuggio for the game winner. Goalkeeper Katie Wisniewski earned the shutout.
In the District Final vs. Anthony Wayne on 10/25, the teams were tied 1-1 after 80 minutes of regulation soccer. Anthony Wayne scored on a penalty kick in the second half and junior Alyssa Stark put away a direct free kick from 21 yards out to tie up the contest. After playing 30 minutes of overtime, it took seven PK kickers for our Eagles to win the contest with the final score of 2-1. After being tied 3-3 in PKs, sophomore Emma Hoyt scored her PK and goalkeeper Katie Wisniewski stopped the AW kicker to give the Eagles the victory. This is varsity’s third straight year as District Champs!
